Tips for Driving in Inclement Weather

If you've lived in Arkansas long enough, you know that the weather can be unpredictable — to say the least! At McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale, we've seen everything from week-long floods to mountains of snow. More times than not, weather like this can make the roads slick, dangerous, and downright scary. It's important to know how to deal with inclement weather if you are caught on the road or have to drive in an emergency situation. Shop Vehicles with AWD or 4×4 While staying put in bad weather is always the best option, we understand that there are times when it's unavoidable. In these situations, you can help yourself by preparing beforehand and using proper driving techniques. Follow these tips to navigate the roads safely during less-than-ideal weather. Ways to Prepare Before You Drive in Bad Weather Plan your route! Check the news, social media, local radio, or another trusted source. Information on road conditions, closures, and evacuation routes can help you stick to the shortest and safest roads. Create an emergency kit! Stock your vehicle with essentials like snacks, blankets, flashlights, and tools in case you get stuck on the road. Rapidly changing weather can catch you off-guard, so it's always best to be prepared. Make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape! Regularly check your tires, brakes, headlights, and windshield wipers — especially in winter months. And, before departing, be sure that all of your windows are defrosted or cleared of debris for optimal visibility. Schedule a Check-Up with Our Service Team Things to Keep in Mind While Driving in Bad Weather: Drive slowly! This may seem obvious, but taking your time can reduce the chance of an accident dramatically. Slow, steady, thoughtful driving gives you more time to react to potential hazards. Go easy on both your brakes and gas pedal. Avoid cruise control! In snow, ice, slush, or heavy rain, you want to avoid using cruise control. This includes adaptive cruise control and any hands-free driving features. Dangerous road conditions may require immediate intervention, so relying on cruise control is definitely inadvisable. Leave extra room in front of your vehicle! Experts suggest doubling the distance between you and the car in front of you when driving in rain, snow, or sleet. Increased braking time is crucial in inclement weather! Look where you want to go! It helps to look far ahead in bad weather, as you are more likely to spot frozen patches or flooded areas. If you feel your car skidding, it also helps to focus on where you want to go, not where the vehicle is headed at that moment. Use your peripheral vision to guide you and help you regain control. Don't be afraid to pull over! It's never a convenient or fun option, but waiting out a storm can sometimes be the safest option. Finding a solid, low-traffic area to pull off the road can be a smart move, especially if the weather has severely compromised your visibility. However, if the weather is predicted to only get worse (like a snowstorm), you may need to press on. Amazingly Safe: The New Chrysler Pacifica Driving in inclement weather demands extra caution and preparedness. Whether it's planning your route, stocking your vehicle, or practicing safe driving habits, taking these precautions can make a significant impact on your safety! At McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale, Arkansas, we always want our customers to be as safe as possible. We hope these tips will help you navigate the roads confidently, should you need to brave that temperamental Arkansas weather!

Enjoying the Natural State: Quick Road Trips in your Ram

Time to stretch your legs and get out of the house after a strenuous winter and social distancing. While we wait for things to get back to normal thanks to Covid vaccinations, there’s really no safer leisure activity than a long drive to enjoy the Northwest Arkansas scenery. Nothing beats taking a leisurely drive in your Ram 1500 or Ram Heavy Duty, exploring new locations or revisiting your favorite and familiar locale. McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale, AR would like to share with you a few of our favorite outdoor hotspots that are prime examples of the Natural State’s beauty. The Boston Mountains Scenic Loop How can we have a list of scenic drives in NWA without mentioning the beautiful Boston Mountains? One of the most epic drives in Arkansas is Boston Mountain Scenic Loop, otherwise known as U.S. Highway 71. Once a stagecoach route in the mid-19th century, this coil of highway displays the essence of what makes the Ozarks, including winding turns, pretty mountain towns, lush valleys, and picturesque farmlands. Just west is the spectacular I-49, which stretches over green lush valleys, pristine flowing waterways and includes the only freeway tunnel in the entire state. Both routes offer plenty of areas to take photographs or hike into the mountains and get up close to Ozark beauty. Pea Ridge National Military Park Garfield, AR For the Ram-trucksters who are history or military buffs, you have to check out the Pea Ridge National Military Park. Although the visitor center is still closed due to Covid-19, it is a wonderful 40-minute drive to the small town of Garfield, AR, just lying northeast of Springdale. This National Park was established to protect the Civil War battle site of Pea Ridge, which was one of the most pivotal Civil War battles west of the Mississippi River. Today, it is one of the most intact Civil War battlefields in the United States. Devil’s Den State Park West Fork, AR Is the family in the mood for a nice afternoon picnic? Devil’s Den State Park is the perfect spot for family fun and getting back in touch with Mother Nature. One Northwest Arkansas’s most iconic parks, Devil’s Den is situated in the Lee Creek Valley. Some of the park’s spectacular characteristics are picturesque rock formations, caverns, and Devil’s Lake which was formed by a gorgeous rock dam spanning Lee Creek. The eight-mile lake is a favorite of the locals for fishing and boating. Another great feature is the park’s hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails which all lead to the surrounding Ozark National Forest. This weekend, don’t wait another minute! Pack up the family and some of your favorite snacks for a wonderful drive in your Ram truck to any of these beautiful Arkansas locations. Suggestions for Improved Gas Mileage

The holiday season has officially started this month and that means more driving for lots of folks, from cross-country holiday travel to in-state road trips. The Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles we sell here at McLarty Daniel CDJRF of Springdale are superb at getting more miles out of a gallon due to innovations in engine management and design. Even so, it doesn’t hurt to maximize your efforts at saving money on engine fuel. As seen below, check out our tips for improving gas mileage. If your vehicle is not great at fuel economy, stop in today and check out the latest generation of powerful, fuel-efficient vehicles we have here at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Springdale. ALWAYS USE YOUR VEHICLE’S RECOMMENDED FUEL TYPE: It is crucial to follow your vehicle owner’s manual for what type of fuel to use. Vehicles are tested for the best performance using the most ideal type of fuel. While some drivers believe using higher-octane, more expensive grades of fuel will help them get better performance, most are fine using lower-octane blends. Check your owner’s manual for recommended fuel grades, however, and follow that advice. CHECK YOUR GAS CAP: As incredible as it might sound, having an old gas cap can lead to a vehicle not getting good fuel economy, The typical gas cap contains a rubber seal which creates airtight protection against air getting into our gas tanks, and as the seal ages, it can allow more air to pass into the tank and fuel vapor to leak out. Over time, that evaporation can cost a few tenths of a mile in fuel economy, which can really add up! EASY ON THE GAS PEDAL: A word to the wise, the faster your car accelerates, the greater the drag your vehicle will have to work against. More drag equals more gas burned. So remember to pull away from stops smoothly and evenly, without over-revving your engine. You’ll save more fuel and your wallet will thank you. KEEP YOUR TIRES AT THE CORRECT PRESSURE: One of the most effective ways to maintain fuel efficiency is the correct air pressure in your tires. Low air pressure increases the rolling resistance of your tires, which in turn makes the engine exert more energy. It is recommended to keep between 32 to 35 psi in your tires at all times. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended pressure for your vehicle. ENGINE IDLE: Engine idling can waste up to a gallon of gas for every hour your engine runs at idle. If you turn off your engine while you wait in a drive-thru, then restart your engine when you are ready, you will save a few more bucks and you’ll help the environment thanks to fewer emissions being released. We hope these tips will help you get better fuel efficiency from your vehicle. When you’re ready to buy a new vehicle, stop by McLarty Daniel CDJRF in Springdale. Let us help you find a vehicle that offers a better fuel economy and save your pocketbook. We hope to see you soon and safe travels! CLICK HERE TO CONTACT THE MCLARTY DANIEL SALES TEAM

Handy Travel Apps To Have

One way to have a great road trip this summer is by having helpful travel apps on your smart device. From finding directions to discovering sneaky speed traps, there is a travel app for every travel issue. We at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale would like to suggest a few handy travel apps that will make your road trip a good one. If you need a new vehicle to start your vacation in the right direction, stop by and let us assist you in finding the vehicle that fits your needs. MASTER THE WEATHER: With frantic thunderstorms and coping with the grueling summer heat, the weather can put a damper on your travel fun. There are tons of available apps to help you avoid such nightmares. One weather travel app available is DriveWeather. It’s designed to help travelers avoid the worst weather conditions, with real-time updates and the latest meteorological info. The app even lets you track your best time to depart, providing radar views and the routes from one point to another that will be the most trouble-free weather-wise. FORGET THE GAS CAN: Risk it long enough, and the “E” on your gas gauge will stand for “Enjoy Walking” — particularly if you don’t know where the next gas station is located. Luckily for us all, there is one mobile app that is generally very accurate. GasBuddy helps you find places to fill up on gas at the cheapest price. It’s updated with info from real, everyday drivers like you, so you know the info is up to date. THE PIT STOPS: At one time or another we have all brought that extra-large, bladder-buster beverage along for the ride! A few quarts of soda and a few miles later, we have to make a bathroom stop. Not to fear, there are many travel apps that help you find clean public restrooms like SitOrSquat and Flush Toilet Finder. So when you’ve gotta go, find the phone. NO MORE TRAFFIC TICKETS: To avoid chatting with law enforcement over a traffic ticket by the side of the highway, check out Radarbot Free. Download it, and you’ll have a speed camera warning device, real-time traffic alerts, and an advanced speedometer, all in one useful application. But, please: drive safely and obey the speed limit anyway. Just because you can speed doesn’t mean you should. We hope these suggested travel apps are helpful for summer excursions enjoying quality family time, keeping things stress-free like it should be. If you are in the market to purchase a new vehicle for your adventures, don’t hesitate to contact your friends at McLarty Daniel CDJRF in Springdale. Let us assist you with your vehicle needs. Summer Road Trip Hacks

It has been a rough spring, but summer is here and in full swing! It is definitely time to gear up, pack up the kiddos, and hit the road for some quality time out of the house. Road trips with the whole family can be fun and exciting, but it’s always a challenge to get to your vacation destination with your sanity intact. Well, not to worry, part of having a great road trip is being prepared with everything you’ll need to make it stress-free. McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Springdale would like to offer a few road trip hacks to make your vacation a pleasant experience with the family. DIY SICK SACK: Here is a road trip hack for those family members who are prone to getting car sick. Create a DIV ready-to-go car sickness kit out of a plastic storage bag containing the essentials: a few air-sickness bags borrowed from your next airline trip (or, in a pinch, doubled brown paper bags), cleaning wipes, mints or hard candies to help fight off nausea, and over-the-counter medicines to help with motion sickness. TRASH STORAGE: With all the pit stops for bathroom breaks and snacks, you might start a collection of used snack wrappers and empty beverage cans that will have you running out of legroom due to all the clutter. Don’t fret! The best hack for that is transforming an inexpensive plastic cereal container into a clever trash collector. Insert a small trashcan liner in the cereal container and then you are ready to hit the road while keeping your ride clean. SNACK CONTAINERS: When you’re traveling with little ones or even messy teens, a great way to keep from finding crumbs and old food between the seat cushions is recycling used coffee creamer containers into snack containers. They are easy to fill up with the kids’ favorite snack, feature a snap lid that closes tight to prevent spills, and they’re easy to manage while on the road. DIY SMARTPHONE HOLDER: It gets pretty hairy driving when you’re trying to keep an eye on the road and on your smartphone map directions at the same time, especially when you are trying to find a location without getting lost. This road trip hack is inexpensive and saves room at the console. Take a binder clip and wrap a couple of sturdy rubber bands around the arms of the clip, and there you have a makeshift smartphone holder. Place your phone between the arms, and then you will be able to clip it onto your air vents to have easy visibility while driving. HELPFUL SMARTPHONE APPS: For long road trips, your smartphone becomes a vital tool not only for your kids to play games on but also to give access to some road trip-friendly apps. Might we suggest the app, SitOrSquat, which helps you find clean public restrooms while on the road. There is also GasBuddy, the app that helps find places to fill up on gas at the cheapest price. We hope these summer road trip hacks are helpful for you and your family when out on the open road enjoying quality family fun. If you are in the market to purchase a new vehicle for your summer excursions, don’t hesitate to contact your friends at McLarty Daniel CDJR in Springdale. Let us assist you with your vehicle needs. Be safe and have a great summer! CLICK HERE TO CONTACT THE MCLARTY DANIEL SALES TEAM

Summer Fun While Social Distancing

Since January, we’ve been daydreaming about warm summer afternoons at our favorite beach or big summer blowouts like July 4th celebrations with all our family and friends. We even prepared ourselves to wade through sweaty crowds at our favorite amusement park or at an outdoor concert of our favorite musical group. But due to vital social distancing guidelines, we won’t be doing any of those activities this summer. That doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. There are still several ways you can celebrate summer. McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Springdale would like to share some social distance-safe ideas for what to do over the long summer. BARBEQUE, OF COURSE: Get out the grill, fire it up, and let’s have a cookout. You know there will be some good eats. Set up lawn games like horseshoes to play with the kids. Break out the sidewalk chalk, create your summer masterpiece for your neighbors to gaze upon and grow jealous of your creative skills. For some of us staying indoors completely, consider recipes that guide you through making cook-out staples in the kitchen. Try making pulled pork in the slow cooker or a rack of ribs in the oven. Brats are phenomenal coming out of the oven. Then top off your meal with some of that Northwest Arkansas homemade ice cream or boozy popsicles. GET THE FAMILY IN MOTION: Break out the bikes, running shoes, or hiking boots and make it a day for family exercise. Walk around the neighborhood or explore a local scenic trail. It is a great way to bond with the family! Northwest Arkansas has a slew of great trails to explore. Of course, there are plenty of lakes to visit and relax on. You get fresh air, a chance to explore the great outdoors, and quality time with the family while practicing social distancing. SUMMER MOVIES: What better way to get into the summer going in the right direction than watching some classic summer flicks! Schedule a movie night each week and transport yourself to the Greek beach with movies like Mama Mia. Feeling the summer camp vibe? You can watch movies such as The Parent Trap, Wet Hot American Summer, and the classic Meatballs starring funnyman Bill Murray. Or if you are up to a night of classic scary summer movies, then gather up your nerves when you revisit Crystal Lake in Friday the 13th or take to the ocean in Jaws. If you want to get chased by 80’s California metal-hair vampires, then watch Lost Boys PARTY ON, VIRTUALLY: Who said virtual parties have to be about birthdays? Celebrate the summer holidays in futuristic style, gather up family members and cohorts and hang out via Zoom or on any video conferencing app. For your virtual party to really have the spirit of summer, change your Zoom background to a picture of the beach or a festive backyard space. If you want to play games with friends try using online games that can be streamed by groups. Don’t let COVID-19 rain on your summer parade. Who is ready to get summer going in a fun and safe way during this uncertain time? We hope these ideas on how to celebrate while social distancing make you and your family’s summer an enjoyable one. We at McLarty Daniel CDJR in Springdale are here for our customers and community anytime. Contact us, and let us know how we can assist you when purchasing your next vehicle. In the spirit of Springtime, we want to share a list of five fabulous places to visit throughout Arkansas. So if you want to stretch your legs and go on an excellent excursion in the Natural State, check out these beautiful places. Bentonville, Arkansas Let's begin our list close to home. Just up the road is Bentonville, Arkansas, probably best known for being the hometown of Walmart. But there's a lot more to this great community. In addition to being the location of Walmart's headquarters, there's the Walmart museum where you learn more about founder Sam Walton and Walmart's beginnings. Bentonville has a lot to offer when it comes to museums and great locales, including the Museum of Native American History, the beautifully preserved Peel Mansion, and the awesome Heritage Gardens. Definitely do not forget to stop by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and take in the magnificent art displays and architectural wonders. Fort Smith, Arkansas For the history buffs, approximately an hour south is historic Fort Smith, Arkansas. If you love history and exploring historic sites, Fort Smith should definitely be on your list. When you begin your exploration, start at Miss Laura's Visitor Center which is located in what was once an Old West bordello in the historic downtown. From there, visit the fantastic Fort Smith National Historic Site and explore how life went on in the 19th century at the edge of Indian Territory. There is also the Fort Smith National Cemetery, and the Fort Smith Museum of History preserves the culture and history of Fort Smith and the surrounding communities. Buffalo National River For nature lovers, there's few places more majestic and peaceful than the beautiful Buffalo National River, one of the last undammed rivers in the south. Winding 153 miles, the river free-flows through the tranquil Ozark Mountains and is a popular place to go floating and fishing. You can also do some hiking and picnicking there as well. The river is divided into three districts and has plenty of campgrounds and concessions where guided river float tours are available. Lake Ouachita Lake State Park Another fabulous destination for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers is Lake Ouachita State Park near Hot Springs. One of the most popular swimming spots for families, Lake Ouachita has pristine open waters and a variety of fish to catch including bream and large-mouthed bass. Ouachita boasts 975 miles of coastline, including with sandy beaches, quiet inlets, and cool-water coves. It is a wonderful and safe place for swimming, scuba-diving, and any other water sport. Hot Springs National Park Cozied in the sleepy Ouachita Mountain, Hot Springs National Park offers a variety of awesome attractions for the whole family. Named after the natural hot springs that have been a signature feature there for millenia, Hot Springs is a historic place with a rich history. Check out the Gangster Museum of American and Bathhouse Row, where some of the original Victorian bath houses still offer natural hot spring baths. Whether you love biking along river trails, hiking through brush-ridden trails or fishing hidden river-bends, Arkansas offers a little something for everyone. Northwest Arkansas has plenty of hiking trails for the casual hiker or everyday enthusiast near Springdale. Let’s take a look at one of our favorites!Hagarville, AR is a sleepy town located nearly two hours southeast of Springdale. Hagarville’s main attraction is Haw Creek Falls Campground, a local favorite for camping, swimming, fishing and hiking. The waterfalls are just six-feet tall but span forty-feet, opening up into a tranquil swimming hole. The hike from the campground’s parking lot to Haw Creek Falls is a mere 0.2 miles, but you’ll enjoy the serene beauty of the pool and the ease of access. One waterfall not enough? Hop on the Ozarks Highlands Trail that runs through the Haw Creek Falls recreational area and follow the creek upstream toward Pack Rat Falls. You won’t have to walk too far to see this gorgeous waterfall, another short 0.25-mile walk, but you’ll be more than happy you ventured this far. The 24-foot cascading waterfall commands attention and makes for a beautiful scene amidst the lush, green Arkansas pines. More waterfalls? We’ve got you covered. Backtrack down to the Haw Creek Falls rec area and cross Arkansas HWY 123 and continue along the right side of the creek for another quarter mile. You’ll find yourself enchanted by Pam’s Grotto, surrounded by bluffs and a towering 37-foot waterfall. This might be the most beautiful of the three waterfalls in the area. Snap a couple of pictures and soak it all in before trekking back to Haw Creek Falls campground. Need to cool off? Hop in Haw Creek Fall’s swimming hole and relax a bit before calling it a day. Even though you’re in the forest, be sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water! Haw Creek Falls is worth a day-trip and is easy enough for the whole family to hike and enjoy. The Beale Street Music Festival Memphis, Tennessee May 3-5 Distance from NWA: 305 miles While the summers in Memphis can be muggy and hot, springtime in the crown jewel city of the Mississippi Delta region is a joy. May in Memphis is made even sweeter every year by the always star-studded Beale Street Music Festival. One of the premiere outdoor music festivals in the south, the three-day event is held on ten big stages strung along historic Beale Street, and the $55 day ticket gets you in to see everything on that day. If you want to go big, a $649 VIP Experience ticket will get you up close and personal to all the stars. This year’s event includes such musical luminaries as Cardi B, Shinedown, Dave Matthews Band, G-Eazy, Khalid, One Republic, Charlie Wilson and more. For full details, visit the festival website online at www.memphisinmay.org. Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band North Little Rock, Ark., Verizon Arena June 6, 8 p.m. Distance from NWA: 202 miles With his laid-back vibe, fun lyrics and catalogue of beach-loving tunes like “Margaritaville,” “Come Monday,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere,” Jimmy Buffett has been encouraging audiences to put on their flip flops and Hawaiian shirt, slow down and live a little since the mid-1970s, basking in a hang-ten ethos that draws hordes of devoted fans — called “Parrotheads” — to his shows wherever he plays. It’s been a few years since Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band brought their traveling carnival of good times and old favorites to Central Arkansas, but they’re coming back in early June for Buffett’s “Son of a Sailor” Tour 2019. Named after Buffett’s famous 1978 album of the same name, the show promises to be almost as much fun as a trip to the Redneck Riviera for Spring Break, and the margarita-drenched tailgating outside the arena before the show is always almost as good as the concert itself. Tickets range are $29, $76 or $146. For more information, visit verizonarena.com. Rocklahoma! May 24-26 Pryor, Oklahoma Distance from NWA: 80 miles Are you ready to rock?
