And if you need a great new or used car, truck, van or SUV to haul your bones to the local spook house, stop in today at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale. THE ASYLUM HAUNTED HOUSE
210 N. Main Street, Cave Springs
When a haunted house starts the online description of their facility with “if you soil yourself, we will celebrate,” it’s a good bet that you’d better come ready to be seriously scared. Expanded and redesigned for 2019, the Asylum Haunted House in Cave Springs has won several awards for their bone-chilling presentation, design and props since they opened in the 2007 Haloween season, including being voted the number two haunt in the state (was that on purpose, given the “soil yourself” comment?) by Scare Factor Magazine. Because of extreme scares, the haunt is not recommended for children. Admission is $15 per person, and they’re open every weekend until Halloween. For more information on tickets and schedule, shamble out of your grave and head to their website at: theasylumhauntedhouse.net

CARPENTER’S MORTUARY SPOOK HOUSE
136 E Main St,, Gentry
It doesn’t get a lot spookier at Halloween time than a haunt situated in a real former mortuary and chapel which the owners purport to be haunted 365 days a year by real ghosts, so there should be plenty of scares on hand at Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House in Gentry. With movie-grade props, actors, costumes and scares, Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House also features a film-grade plot: the story of a Great Depression-era huckster who began taking in orphans from the state to make ends meet before committing unspeakable crimes on Halloween night! Standard pulp fare, but it’s an immersive experience that works, especially given the already spooky locale of the former mortuary and “funeral chapel.” Because of extreme scares, it’s recommended only for those 13 and up. Tickets to Carpenter’s Mortuary Spook House are just unlucky $13 bucks, and you can even save $3 at the gate by showing you’ve liked, shared or commented on their Facebook page. It’s rare to catch Cruz Perez when he isn’t smiling.

A salesperson at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for the past three years, Perez lives with his family and young son about an hour away in Berryville. The commute is worth it, he said, to work at a place where he feels like he’s making a difference for Northwest Arkansas.

Now 31, Perez worked at a local poultry plant before coming to McLarty Daniel CDJRF. Working there, he couldn’t help but think there had to be something better, both for him and his son, who is almost three years old. That “something better” turned out to be selling cars at McLarty Daniel CDJRF.

“I enjoy what I do,” he said. “Now that I’ve been here long enough, I have repeat customers who come back to me for different reasons: their kid has graduated high school, or they’ve got a car that’s breaking down. Maybe they added another family member, like a new baby, and they need a new vehicle. I stay for the new customers and the old customers who need my help.”

Perez said it’s a big responsibility to sell someone a car, which can be a major investment for working families. When selling a vehicle, he said, he’s able to give families added peace of mind, knowing that with a a new and used dealership, a full body shop, and a fully-staffed service and repair center at McLarty Daniel CDJRF, the customers who buy from him will be able to come back to the dealership for help, no matter what life brings their way, from car accidents to oil changes to major warranty repairs.

“Sales, financing, collision: at this dealership, we have everything under one roof,” he said. “Maybe you want to get your oil changed. Maybe you want to buy some new wheels. We can do that. We have a parts department, we have a collision center. If you’re having a bad day with an auto accident, you can get it towed here to be fixed and then get a rental car. Maybe you can look at another car. We make it easier. We can do it all.”

Having grown up speaking both English and Spanish is definitely an asset in Springdale, where the Hispanic population has boomed in the past few decades. Spanish-speaking customers are no different than any other customer, he said, but sometimes dealing with both the anxiety of car buying and the language barrier can be intimidating.  “They’re not looking for anything different or special,” he said. “Sometimes they just need to get over that language barrier — somebody to take care of them in their own language. I can do that.”

Perez said that when it comes to being in sales, he tells people that he approaches it kind of the way Walmart associates handle their jobs. They’re there for the customer if they need assistance and ready to offer help, but they don’t hover over every person who walks in.

“When somebody pulls up, I don’t smother them,” he said. “I handshake everybody. I have a son, and I know if somebody takes care of my son, that’s the world to me. So I take care of even the customers’ little ones, giving them a handshake. You ask them what they need: How many seat belts? How much space? Everything. They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. That’s my process.”

After figuring out which car is right for the customer’s needs and their budget, Perez said, he makes sure to keep taking care of them after the sale. “You may sell somebody one car, but you give them your cell number and you take care of them every time they need something — from small questions to what an oil change costs to ‘hey, my engine light is on.’” he said. “The most important thing is taking care of people…. That first purchase is so important. You do that right, and you’ll see them again: oil changes, questions, when they’re ready to trade in someday. We’re making customers for life.”

A homebody who said his first priority during his time off is spending time with his family and his son, Perez said that he likes working at McLarty Daniel CDJRF because every member of the dealership staff treats every customer with the respect they would give to a member of their own family. That, and the changes he’s able to make in the lives of those who come in, seeking his help.

“I had one lady who had just gotten divorced,” he said. “The loans were in her husband’s name, so she was left without a car. She came in and I helped her, and right before she drove off in her new car, she gave me a great big hug. Everything fell into place for her, right when she needed it. It felt great. I was only a small part of fixing what she was going through, but it was a big deal for her.”

It’s all part of why Perez has a heartfelt belief that the dealership’s first priority is taking care of the customers. “That’s the main thing,” he said. “I have confidence in this place. I see the outreach into the community. I see us letting people know that we’re here not only to sell you a car, but to help take care of Springdale.”

Though he’s still a fairly young man, Steven Castleman has been in the body shop business for a long, long time. The collision center manager at McLarty Daniel CDJRF of Springdale since 2013, Castleman started working summers in a body shop when he was only 14 years old, before he could even legally drive.

“My brother-in-law, his dad owned a body shop here in Springdale,” he said. “I started there as a teenager, after school and in the summertime. Mowing the grass, taping off cars, dumping the trash, mixing paint and stuff like that.” Though it was hot, sweaty, dirty work, he stuck with it, and now he can’t imagine doing anything else.

The collision center at McLarty Daniel CDJRF is a full service body shop, able to do anything from fixing minor scratches to full frame replacements and everything in between. The body shop works on all makes and models, has relationships with all insurance companies and dozens of local insurance agents and adjusters, and is on the direct repair program for multiple insurance providers. Though Castleman often meets customers at a low point, after their car has been damaged, the variety of the work makes the job something different every day.

“When we deal with a customer, it’s at a bad time,” he said. “We’ve just got to try and show them that it’s going to be okay. We can always fix their car. We don’t always get to see the same customers over and over, so we’ve got to make a good first impression the first time…. With me, I’ve been in the industry a long time here in Springdale, so I know all the adjusters and the agents. I get a lot of work because of that. They’ll have an upset customer or a tricky customer, and they’ll send them to me because they know they’re going to get taken care of. They know they’re not going to have to worry about it. That means a lot to me. I’ve worked a long time in this market area just to try to keep a good name and a good reputation, not only for myself but the team I have with me.”

Castleman said his carefully-selected team of 20 employees is another part of what makes coming to work enjoyable for him. One thing he tells them often is that the customer is the ultimate boss, and they should help each other any time they see an opportunity. Even though he’s the collision center manager, Castleman’s belief in sharing the workload means he can often be found out on the collision center floor doing even the most menial tasks, from taping off cars to buffing out paint. He usually pitches in when and where he can, he said. It’s a quality he encourages in his team.

“It’s taken a long time to build up my team,” he said. “I’ve got a good bunch of employees, from the estimators to painters to the body men. They’re guys who have been in the business a long time, so I help them with their job and they teach me stuff every day. I enjoy that. I think that’s more rewarding to me: getting to come here and actually enjoy what you do with the people you work with. The time that we spend together, that’s important to me.”

Having been in the body shop business for over two decades now, Castleman said he’s seen plenty of changes over the years, especially as automakers have gone to lightweight alloys, high strength steels and composite materials in body panels and suspension components. That requires his team to be constantly training. With the McLarty Daniel family of dealerships in Northwest Arkansas having expanded to include more brands, his team is currently working to broaden their portfolio of certifications with I-CAR (the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair), an international, not-for-profit organization that certifies collision centers.

“We have to try to keep up with the technology not only with the manufacturer recommendations, but also our gold standard, which is I-CAR,” he said. “I-CAR sets the standard for collision repair. Obviously, it piggybacks off what the manufacturer recommends, but that’s kind of the go-to. We go off of what they say. We’re also in the process of being certified through I-CAR now that we’ve got some new brands since McLarty Daniel bought this dealership. We picked up Ford, Nissan and some other brands, so we have to get certifications in those car lines too so we can be manufacturer recommended.”

When a customer buys a new car, they have the manufacturer’s assurance that every bolt, nut and part has been installed correctly and double checked. After a collision repair, however — a process that can mean taking a vehicle apart down to the frame — all the responsibility for the customer’s safety rests squarely on the shoulders of Castleman and his team. It’s a level of trust that Castleman respects, and which makes him hold himself and every member of his team to a higher standard.

“It’s a lot to take in, but we check everything,” he said. “We test drive. We do everything we can on the front end. Obviously, in collision, there can be multiple things from the accident that you just can’t see, so we always try to let the customer know: if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call us. We try to do the best we can on the front side, but you know your car better than we do. We always try to take care of that and make sure they understand that we’re not just ‘one and done.’ If you need anything from this point forward, we’re here to help.”

Castleman said that there are plenty of benefits to having a collision center, service center and car dealership under one roof at McLarty Daniel CDJRF. If a customer buys a car and later has an accident, they can bring it back to the same dealership where they purchased their car, and work with the people they already trust. If he needs parts or technical expertise during a repair, he can walk fifty feet to the service center or parts counter and ask his colleagues for assistance. “If I need something from them, it’s nice to have them here,” he said. “Having a good relationship with the service department and the sales department is key to what I do.”

In the end, it’s the friendships and trust he’s forged with the collision center team that keeps Castleman excited about coming to work. There’s a kind of art, he said, in seeing his team tackle a vehicle that might seem damaged beyond repair and later return it to the customer looking and driving as good as new. For him, that never gets old. Though he could clearly take his know-how and considerable expertise anywhere, he plans on staying with McLarty Daniel long term.

“For me, this is my home,” he said. “Springdale and Northwest Arkansas, this is it for me. It’s the people. It’s the employees. It’s all my technicians. It’s home. I enjoy coming to work because of that. It’s kind of weird to say that, but when you work with people for so long, and you know you can trust them and they can trust you, it just makes your job a little bit easier.”

Though they’ve mostly gone the way of the hood ornament, there used to be a time when pretty much every city or town worth its salt had a drive-in movie theater. That’s right, children: mom and dad, grandpa and grandma used to watch movies from the comfort of their own car on summer nights instead of cooped up inside, sitting in a sticky movie theater seat that has had who knows what spilled on it. There’s been a generation or two now who has never known the joys of going to the drive in theater, but that doesn’t mean they’re entirely out of luck. All across America, a few keepers of the flame are making sure the drive-in experience lives on, with many still showing first-run flicks to carloads of moviegoers. That includes quite a few drive-ins right here in Arkansas, or at least within easy road tripping distance.

One of the coolest things about owning a Jeep Wrangler is that, while you’re buying one of the most capable and most rugged off-roaders ever made, you’re also buying into a worldwide community of Jeep owners, complete with meetups, trail parties, prototype debuts and the general camaraderie that comes with owning an example of one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable vehicles of all time.

Jeep is understandably proud of that legion of devoted fans, and so they often debut new things to keep Jeep owners involved. One of the coolest is Jeep’s Badge of Honor program. A free, downloadable app that’s available for Apple iPhone or Android smartphones, the Badge of Honor app is a social media-like experience that allows you to check in at famous, Jeep-approved trails scattered all over the country (including three in Arkansas), check the weather there, post photos, earn points for free stuff, and generally connect with other Jeep owners across the United States as they have fun in their Jeeps.

Maybe coolest of all, the Badge of Honor program includes the ability to earn actual hard badges, designed by Jeep, by visiting and conquering the trails listed in the app. They’re not stickers, but are something more like a factory emblem. The badges are free, and available for all 49 trails listed on the Jeep Badge of Honor app, including Rubicon Ridge, Fun Run and The Snake at Hot Springs ORV Park.

Click here to download the Badge of Honor app for Apple devices

Click here to download the Badge of Honor app for Android devices

The only app, points and reward program officially licensed and administered by Jeep’s parent company FCA America, the Jeep Badge of Honor program is only open to Jeep owners, who must verify their ownership when they register for a profile on the Badge of Honor app by inputting their vehicle’s unique VIN. When you open the app, you’ll see a featured trail on the home screen, with the current weather conditions there, how much daylight remains before sundown and more. Click the map icon, and you’ll see a map of the United States, with your current location as a blue dot and each Badge of Honor trail marked with a yellow pin. Below the map, the trails nearest to your current location are listed first.

Each trail listing features a difficulty ranking, from easy two to extremely difficult nine. Click on each listing and then tap the rectangular tab that appears over the map location you’ve selected, and you’ll be presented with a screen showing the trail’s general terrain, how many Jeepers have checked in there, directions to the location, weather, general information and photos taken by Jeep owners who have visited.

In order to claim your digital Badge of Honor for the location, just drive there and click the app’s “Check In” button while at the location. In order to request a physical hard badge that you can put on your Jeep for bragging rights, you’ll have to go to your Badge of Honor app profile page, see which Badges of Honor you’re eligible for, then type in the VIN number of your Jeep to prove you’re actually a Jeep owner. Hit send, and your unique badge will be on its way to you in no time, ready to apply to your fender or tailgate with the supplied automotive double stick tape.

For more information about the Jeep Badge of Honor program, visit the BoH official website at https://www.jeep.com/badge-of-honor.html  It’s another great program for everybody who loves their Jeep. Still in need of a Jeep to help you hit the trails? Then stop by McLarty Daniel CDJRF of Springdale today and check out our big selection of Jeep vehicles. Put one in your driveway, download the Badge of Honor app, and then get out there and start exploring! We’ll see you on the trail!

For years now, Jeep has been tantalizing devotees of the Jeep brand by rolling out a small fleet of one-off Jeep concept vehicles at the annual Easter Jeep Safari held every spring in Moab, Utah. Now that storied off-roading playground is lending its name to the first special edition model of the completely redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL: the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Moab!

Click here to shop our selection of 2018 Jeep Wrangler models online

Announced by Jeep on August 28, the 2018 Wrangler Moab is based on the Jeep Wrangler Sahara model, and features the Sahara’s body-color hardtop as standard equipment. What sets the Wrangler Moab apart, however, are a number of factory mods lifted from the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon edition, which help make the Moab into a tough-as-nails off roading machine that’s as happy on the trail or blasting through mud as it is on city streets.

The Wrangler Moab includes the 2018 Rubicon’s signature hood with functional air intakes, as well as the Rubicon’s steel bumpers with removable end caps. Jeep Rubicon also lends the Moab its high-strength steel rock rails to protect the lower body (Sahara style side steps are also available). The hood sides are adorned with low gloss black “MOAB” decals, with the headlight surrounds, grille throats, front tow hooks and 17-inch wheels — the latter also borrowed from the Rubicon — painted the same matte black. Putting the power to the ground are 32-inch mud-terrain tires with aggressive tread, while LED headlights and tail lights are standard. The body color hardtop is also standard, but the new Sky One-Touch power sliding top and the new, easier-folding fabric top are also available. The Jeep Wrangler Moab is available in nine colors, from eye-popping to understated, including Granite Crystal Gray, Billet Silver, Punk’n Metallic, Mojito Green, Black, Bright White, Sting Gray, Ocean Blue Metallic and Firecracker Red.

Inside, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Moab is as premium as the outside, with standard leather-trimmed seats and leather wrapped dashboard with contrast stitching. Also standard is the Jeep Safety Group package, which includes ParkSense Parking Assist, Parkview rear backup camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection. Keeping you entertained on the trail is the standard nine-speaker premium sound system from Alpine, with all-weather components, controlled by the standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.

Optional on the Moab are heated front seats and steering wheel, plus remote start so you can crank her up from inside the house on cold mornings. Meanwhile, underneath are Trail Rated Jeep components, including standard Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case, and the Trac-Lok limited slip rear differential.

If the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Moab is the shape of things to come for limited edition Wranglers, there’s great things in store for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. If you’re itching to get a look at the new JL models, including the awesome capability of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, stop in today at McLarty Daniel CDJRF in Springdale. With loads of 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JL models on the lot and ready to roll, we’re the place where great adventures begin! oil pouring into an engine

With more than 25 years as a mechanic in his rearview mirror, McLarty Daniel CDJRF Service Manager Anthony Reed has seen it all, fixed it all, and has probably forgotten more about cars than most people will ever know. Not only does he understand how to diagnose and fix even the most complicated problems, he knows the simple tricks you can take to keep your car, truck or SUV alive longer, even if you don’t have a quarter-decade of experience, thousands of dollars worth of tools and a fully staffed service center at your disposal.

We recently stopped in with Mr. Reed and asked him for some basic tips folks can use to help the service techs at McLarty Daniel CDJRF keep their cars, trucks and SUVs healthy for more miles. After thinking about it for a bit, Reed came up with five service tips to help get the most out of your car, no matter how many miles are on the odometer. If your vehicle is clunking, rattling, clattering or otherwise “making a noise,” come see us at McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale. We work on all makes and models, and know more about the brands on the sign than anybody. If your ride has a hitch in her git-along, Anthony and his team will set it straight at a price you can afford. Read on for some tips to make sure your trips to the service center are as few and far between as possible.

Click here to schedule an appointment with our Service Department

  1. Change your oil regularly: Even Reed admits this one sounds like a no brainer, but keeping your oil changed at a regular interval is crucial to helping your vehicle be all it can be for as long as it can. “You think this is common knowledge,” Reed said, “but I’ve got a car sitting out here that belongs to a guy who didn’t have this common knowledge: change your oil frequently. I know the manufacturers these days say go up to 10,000 miles. I’m just now getting in my mind where I can stomach 5,000 miles between oil changes on my cars. I grew up with a 3,000 mile interval. Now we’re using synthetic blend oils, we have better oil technology than we have. But frequency and consistency of oil changes is one of the best thing you can do for your car.”
  2. Keep your tires inflated to factory-specified pressure, and have them rotated: Rotating your tires and religiously checking your tire pressure is such a “Dad” thing to do that it’s almost become a punchline, but Reed said that with today’s modern cars, all systems need to be within factory tolerances for everything to work as designed. That includes your tires. “People who don’t keep their air pressure in the right poundage get less life out of their tires, and they’re going to lose some fuel economy from it. The cars are all designed these days with such close tolerances. Tires are supposed to be at 32 pounds and it’s set there for a reason: to get the best performance out of your car. Rotating your tires keeps your tires wearing in a nice, even pattern. The tires on the back are being drug around. They’re going the same way all the time, but the tires on the front are turning, they’re going around curves, they’re catching wear on the outer edges. To keep an even wear, you have to rotate, or otherwise you’ll wear out your front tires first. If you rotate your tires properly and do it right, can add 5,000 to 10,000 miles to the life of your tires.”
  3. Unless you’re driving a high performance car, skip the high octane gas: When it comes time to fill up, drivers of gasoline-powered cars are faced with three buttons, three different octanes, and a dilemma: does my car really need higher octane gasoline to work its best? Reed says no, and that choosing a higher octane fuel than the basic unleaded could actually be doing more harm than good. “Regular unleaded gas is all you need,” he said. “None of the cars today are designed to need anything other than the lowest octane rating, which is 87. Hardly any of them, except for like the [Dodge Challenger and Charger] Hellcat need it. The Hellcat says you have to run Super Premium in it. That engine is designed to need that extra octane and extra heat. It does absolutely no good to put high octane fuel in your pickup truck with a Hemi. It can actually cause more problems in the long run because it allows for carbon buildup because the engine can’t burn off all the fuel. That creates carbon deposits and will eventually cost you fuel economy. Use what the manufacturer says.”
  4. If your car is still under warranty, get it repaired and serviced at the dealership: This one isn’t just Reed’s way of slyly drumming up business. Not only does McLarty Daniel CDJRF know your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram or Fiat better than anyone, taking it to another shop where they might use inferior parts, filters or fluids can indeed void your warranty. As for the supposed higher cost of taking a car to the dealership, Reed said doing so can actually save you thousands in the long run. “My guys are factory trained,” Reed said. “They know everything about your model car. They know the quirks, they know anything that might look odd or shouldn’t be there, and they recognize it. If you go somewhere else, an aftermarket shop, those guys are working on several different models. They don’t always know your car, they don’t always know your maintenance needs. They look at cars at one-size-fits all. We go by the manufacturers recommendations. We’re knowledgeable about your car. It is not true that the dealership is always more expensive. We price to be competitive, especially on all our maintenance stuff. We’ve got people looking at the market for that. We don’t have to be the cheapest, but we do want to be the best. On a lot of things, we are less, though. Our oil changes are less than most places for what we’re offering. We’re a solid, full-synthetic dealership. We only carry synthetic blends or full synthetic oils. We stock no conventional oils, except for [use in] the Cummins diesels. We’re what they call a Gold Dealer because of that. It’s all we offer. I’ve see several instances where someone has gone somewhere else and they’ve replaced all these parts and spent $1,300 or $1,400 dollars, and they come here. They’ll tell me what it’s doing, and i’ll already kinda know what it is before they get it to me, because I’ve seen it before or I’m knowledgeable about it. I’ll get it and fix it for $300, and the problem goes away. That’s because my guys know what’s going on with these cars.”
  5. Inspect your air filter regularly, and change it more often than you might think you need to: Try to imagine wearing the same dust filtering mask over your nose and mouth for months and months at a time, and you’ll quickly understand why keeping the air filter in your vehicle changed is so crucial to engine performance. Just like you, to work at peak performance, your car needs to be able to take a clean, deep breath. Reed said keeping the filters replaced is one of the best things you can do for your vehicle’s long term upkeep. “The whole operation of the engine is air coming in to get mixed with fuel in the chamber and combust,” Reed said. “If you’re not getting the right amount of air in, you start losing fuel economy, performance and all kinds of things. Constant inspection — and we do it during our inspections — is important. An air filter can get dirty even in between even oil changes depending on the conditions you’re driving in. Usually, you’re going to need to inspect the air filter every other oil change. That’s a safe bet. I don’t know if that’s average, but you should definitely inspect it that often. We inspect every filter every time. I’m not saying replace it every other oil change, but you should inspect it every other oil change. It can affect your performance, lower your fuel economy, and if you allow it to get dirty enough and go un-replaced for a long enough period, you can start causing engine damage. Dirt and debris will start getting by that filter and get into your engine. The whole purpose of having a filter there is to keep that out. I see a lot of diesels with that problem. It’s a condition we call ‘dusting.’ You’ll see that dust going right down the intake, right into the engine. That’s not good. It’s like fine sand. It’s like sandpaper inside your cylinders.”

As a car owner, you’re constantly fighting a battle between time, friction, heat, and the delicate moving parts that help keep your vehicle running at tip-top condition. Performing a little basic maintenance can help keep your four-wheeled buddy around a little longer, and these tips from McLarty Daniel CDJRF Service Manager Anthony Reed will definitely help you in that task. Whether you need basic service or a major repair, come see Anthony Reed and the rest of us at McLarty Daniel CDJRF right here in Springdale. Hoonigans Wanted advertisement

Fiat Chrysler America recently announced that Fiat will be teaming up with the racing-focused content producers Hoonigan Media to crown America’s Next Great Driver, with the winner appearing as a co-host in Hoonigan Youtube videos and being awarded a race-ready Fiat 124 Spider Abarth (like the one seen above) that has been customized on-air by the Hoonigan team. The winner will be announced in September, but if you want to apply, you have to hurry! The submission deadline for video entries is August 10!

Based in Los Angeles, Hoonigan Media, online at hoonigan.com, is a producer of content that is almost entirely focused on performance cars. The Hoonigan Youtube channel, which currently has over 1.8 million subscribers, features the Hoonigan team wrenching on and flogging purpose-built race and street performance cars that span the entire spectrum of the automotive hobby, from dune buggies to racing go-karts to 1,200 horsepower diesel drag trucks. Their videos are often jaw-droppingly cool, such as this video from 2014 featuring drift and rallycar racer Ken Block ripping up the streets of LA in a 845 hp, all-wheel-drive 1965 Mustang dubbed the Hoonicorn.

Hoonigan successfully teamed up with Fiat last year to crown the Next Great Female Racer, with Sara Price from Canyon Lake, Calif. besting 150 other female contestants for the title. As part of the experience, she went on to compete in the Mt. Washington Hillclimb in New Hampshire, piloting a factory built Fiat 124 Spider Abarth Rally race car.

Video submissions for this year’s contest, in which potential contestants of both genders spend a maximum of 60 seconds explaining why they should be selected as the Next Great Driver, will be uploaded to Youtube with the hashtag #hooniganswanted in the video title. Potential contestants must also fill out a form at the website hooniganswanted.com, which includes full details on the contest and rules. From the entries submitted, ten contestants will be chosen.

When the competition starts, the contestants will be divided into teams by celebrity drivers, including legendary off-road, drifting and rally-car driver Rhys Millen. Over the course of five episodes that will be shown on the Hoonigan and Fiat social and digital media channels, the contestants will participate in a number of driving challenges behind the wheel of several different Fiat performance models, including the Fiat 500 Abarth, the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, and a factory-built Fiat 134 Abarth rally car. Contestants will be scored on driving skill, teamwork, pit duty, stunt driving, time-attack trials and other metrics.

The Hoonigan-modified Fiat 124 Spider Abarth racecar that will serve as the grand prize for this year’s challenge is currently being modified with cameras rolling at the Hoonigan shop. You can watch the build process right now on the Hoonigans YouTube Channel.

2021 Dodge Charger
Though the legendary Dodge performance division went through some lean years in the 1980s and ‘90s, they have definitely got their Mopar Mojo back since the mid-2000s, fielding incredible cars like the Challenger and Charger SRT and Hellcat models, and the 2018 Challenger Demon, which — with 840 hp on tap plus advanced launch control — could do cool tricks like doing wheel standing dragstrip launches from the factory.

While the limited-edition 2018 Challenger Demon has growled off into the fiery sunset, that doesn’t mean Dodge is going to pack up their toys and quit! Announced just this week are their high-performance plans for the 2019 Dodge Charger, including the details on the new 2019 R/T Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat Chargers. Read on for more details of these amazing new sedans, scheduled to arrive in dealerships this fall.

2019 Charger R/T Scat Pack: The most affordable of the two high-horsepower Chargers announced recently, the 2019 Charger R/T Scat Pack is priced under $40,000, but is a considerable amount of performance bang for your buck. Under the hood is a naturally-aspirated 392 cubic inch Hemi V8 pumping out 485 hp and 475 lb.-ft. of torque, backed by a beefed up Torqueflite 8-speed automatic. New on the Scat Pack Charger for 2019 is a standard Line Lock, which locks the front brakes while allowing the rear tires to spin freely, making for massive burnouts… at the dragstrip. Yeah. That’s the ticket. Also new is launch assist. Operated through a switch on the dash, the system optimizes the engine, transmission, drivetrain and suspension for perfect standing-stop launches at the dragstrip, for lower quarter-mile times and less wheel spin on takeoff. Visually, the 2019 Charger R/T Scat Pack gets a new performance grille with dual, fully-functional air ducts in the grille, while at the rear, there’s a retro Scat Pack Bee emblem. Also available are dual stripes, a satin black contrasting hood with a center scoop and twin ducts, and Bilstein three-mode active damping suspension.

2019 Charger RT Hellcat: In this world full of incredible performance cars, saying that something is the quickest, fastest and most powerful four-door sedan on the planet is a bold statement, but one which the amazing 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat can back up with hard numbers. Putting their muscle where their mouth is, under the hood is the same awesome 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 from the 2018 Challenger Hellcat and 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, delivering a staggering 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Backed by a speed-shifting Torqueflite 8-speed automatic with available steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, the engine is chock full of crazy performance tech, including a system — shared with the awesome 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye — which diverts coolant from the air conditioning to chill air on its way to the supercharger, boosting horsepower. The 2019 Charger Hellcat also takes advantage of an After-Run Chiller, which keeps cooling the supercharger even after the engine is turned off, making sure the engine is constantly at optimal operating temperature. Another trick feature of the 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat is Torque Reserve, which contributes to brutal drag strip launches by closing a bypass valve to pre-fill the supercharger with boost, then automatically tinkers with fuel delivery and spark timing to help the engine rev higher, building even more boost until it’s time to smash the go-go-pedal.  Like the Scat Pack Charger, the 2019 Hellcat Charger also benefits from the new dual snorkel grille, feeding fresh, cool air directly to the intake.

For anyone who ever lamented not being around for the muscle car wars of the 1960s, these are great times to be alive, with factory hot rods from Dodge laying down horsepower, torque and quarter mile numbers that the original crop of Mopar muscle from the good ol’ days could only dream about. If you’d like to buy a Dodge Charger Hellcat in Springdale, Arkansas, stop in today and see us at McLarty Daniel CDJRF! We’ve got a big selection of Dodge Chargers on the lot and ready to roll, and when the 2019 Charger Scat Pack and Hellcat cars are released this fall, we’ll have those too.
