Where to Take Your Jeep in Arkansas
Where to Take Your Jeep in Arkansas for Winter Fun
We’re halfway through winter in Arkansas, and many Jeep owners may be tempted to park their vehicles until spring. But wait! Before you pack your Jeep up for good and dream of warmer weather, the Natural State offers plenty of exciting winter off-roading adventures.
At McLarty Daniel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Springdale, we want to help you make the most of your Jeep year-round. Here are some top spots to take your Jeep for winter fun in Arkansas.
Hot Springs Off-Road Park
The Hot Springs Off-Road Park is a must-visit destination for Jeep enthusiasts, offering 1,242 acres of off-road trails to explore in Hot Springs, Arkansas. From gorgeous year-round scenic views to challenging rock-crawling terrain, there’s something for everyone here! The park is open seven days a week year-round (except Christmas weekend), making it perfect for winter adventures. You can book day-use trail passes, guided side-by-side excursions, or even stay overnight at their RV sites, tent camping spots, or cabins.
Wolf Pen Gap OHV Trail
Located in the Ouachita National Forest, the Wolf Pen Gap OHV Trail is an expansive trail system perfect for winter exploration. While there are a few challenging sections, the majority of the trail also boasts breathtaking views. The trail is best traversed in the fall, but winter driving is possible for those who want more of a challenge. Most of the trail consists of two-track paths, making it ideal for Jeeps. This trail system also offers numerous other trail options for those who want to extend their route.
Mill Creek OHV Trail Loop
For a more moderate winter challenge, head to the Mill Creek OHV Trail Loop in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. This route begins at the Wolf Pen Gap West Trailhead and climbs to the High Point vista. While it’s a multi-use trail, it’s primarily used for OHV vehicles, so be cautious of others moving quickly. The flat high point offers excellent views of the surrounding landscape with expansive vantages of rolling hills and treetops, which can be stunning when dusted with snow. Check out the trail map for a full list of off-road routes at Mill Creek.
Buffalo National River Area
While many associate the Buffalo National River with summer floating trips, winter offers a unique opportunity to explore the area’s rugged hiking trails. Be prepared for any kind of weather and enjoy the solitude of winter in a National Park setting. The Old River Road is a mostly gravel trail through the Buffalo National River Wildlife Management Area that’s perfect for an easy-to-moderate off-roading challenge for your Jeep. But easy doesn’t mean boring! After heavy rains, there are some wet and muddy areas of the trail that provide thrills in the beautiful Buffalo National River area.
